My Thoughts on the 2024 Election
It's difficult to find the right words right now because I can't blindly reassure folks and tell you everything's going to be fine. It's ok to be sad, angry, confused, or scared right now for what's going to happen in the next few years. In the coming weeks and months, we are going to regroup, organize, and fight to protect our rights. I'm not saying that there won't be dark times in the coming years, but we are building communities to support each other because we need each other in times of darkness. We will be the guiding light that lets us find our way back.
If you need a space to let out all of your feelings and frustrations, don’t feel like you need to hold it in. Tuesday's result happened because of many factors out of our control, and no one should blame themselves or others for not doing enough. If you're able to, support those who are grieving and know that you are not alone either. We'll have to get creative in finding ways to push back over the next 4 years, we'll have to learn to adapt. Please take care of your mental health in the coming days and let yourself take breaks to breathe. Allies, we need you now more than ever, and we invite you to stand with us in this moment.
I know it can be hard to believe in times like these, but I do find solace in this quote from Martin Luther King Jr. "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice." Changes won't be seen overnight, but each and every one of us plays a part in bending that arc. This is not the end, nor is it the beginning. We are in a battle that's begun long before we were born and it will not end with us. Those who come after us will take this torch that we've kept lit and keep running forward even in the darkest of times.
So let us be there for one another, grieve together, and when ready, take up the fight together. The work will go on.
